Honda is the new automaker with plans to go all-electric by 2040. Toshihiro Mibe, the company’s new CEO, said during an announcement that the company will sell only electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles by 2040. The automaker will stop producing gasoline cars gradually.
For North America, Honda wants to constitute 40% of its sales from electric and fuel-cell vehicles by 2030. The plans for the next decade are more ambitious as they like to sell 80% of these by 2035, and 100% by 2040.
The first Honda EVs coming to the market will be underpinned by GM’s Ultium battery platform. They will be crossovers and they will arrive in the market by 2024; one under brand Honda and the other from luxury automaker Acura.
After these EVs using the Ultium platform, Honda will unveil its own electric vehicle platform dubbed e:Architecture. These vehicles will hit the roads in the “second half of the 2020s.”
Honda didn’t reveal much about its plans for fuel-cell vehicles. Right now, they are only selling one, the Clarity, in California.
