The Environmental Protection Agency has released the ratings for the entry-level RWD VW ID.4 Pro. Surprisingly, this model offers more range than the higher trim levels like First Edition and the Pro S. The EPA estimates that the RWD Pro can go 260 miles (418 kilometers) on a single charge. It is 10 miles (16 kilometers) over and above the EPA’s 250-mile (402-kilometer) range for the 1st Edition and Pro S.
In other words, the RWD VW ID.4 Pro gives 107 MPGe city, 91 MPGe highway, and 99 MPGe combined. On the other hand, the Pro S delivers 97 MPGe.
The base electric crossover model has an electric motor at the rear axle generating 201 horsepower. It has a lithium-ion battery of 82 kilowatt-hours, of which 77 kWh is functional. VW offers an 11-kW AC charger and a 125-kW DC charger.
According to an independent test conducted by InsideEvs on the ID.4 First Edition, the EV traveled 230 miles (370 kilometers) on a 70-mile-per-hour (113-kilometer-per-hour) expressway with just 2 percent battery remaining. It comes close to the EPA calculated range for the crossover on the highway.
In another test, InsideEvs noted a 20 to 80% recharge through a DC fast charger in approximately 31 minutes.
The RWD VW ID.4 Pro is priced at $39,995 (without a $920 destination charge) and qualifies for a $7,500 tax credit.
