Volkswagen has introduced a new and cheaper variant of the ID.3 electric hatchback, the Pro. The good news is the lower price does not affect the range of the car.
However, the 2021 ID.3 Pro will offer less horsepower compared to the previous base model – the Pro Performance. With lower power, the zero to 60 mph time will also be higher. The company says the Pro’s torque will be better than the 148 bhp 1.5 TSI gas engine.
The ID.3 Pro carries a 58 kWh (net) battery pack that enables the car to generate 143 bhp and 199 pound-feet of torque. With this power, it can accelerate to 62 mph in 9.6 seconds. On the other hand, the Pro Performance comes with a similar torque rating, but it produces 201 bhp and can sprint to 62 mph in 7.3 seconds.
The best part for those selecting this inexpensive ID.3 Pro is the same range as the Pro Performance. It means both these models will deliver around 260 to 263 miles of range on WLTP cycle. The charging time would also remain the same, i.e. 80% charge within 35 minutes using a 100kW CCS charger.
Against the £29,990 ($41,437) Pro Performance, the ID.3 Pro will cost £28,670 ($39,600). These prices include the government’s plug-in vehicle grant.
The company says the Pro electric motor will be accessible for the ID.3’s Life, Business, and Family specifications. Other ID.3 models will be available later in 2021.
