The two performance-focused Blackwing models are here, and they are making the headlines for their fabulous exterior design, robust powertrains, and advanced technology. Yesterday, we discussed everything about the 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and today we will look over the slightly smaller Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing sedan that comes fully ready to compete with its German rivals.

Powertrain

The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6, which is the same mill we also find in the General Motor’s bigger vehicles including the Chevrolet Blazer and the Cadillac XT6. However, the automaker has added fresh titanium connecting rods, an updated crankshaft, and some other small alterations to make it a more capable machine.

The result is an outstanding power output of 472 hp and 445 pound-feet (602 newton-meters) of torque. The engine mates to either a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic, propelling the rear wheels.

Performance Specs

The powertrain setup makes the CT4-V Blackwing super quick on its toes with a 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 kph) time of just 3.8 seconds using the automatic transmission. The top speed of 189 miles per hour (304 kilometers per hour) is also remarkable for this performance sedan.

Going for the standard manual, the 0 to 60 sprint may add a few more seconds to the time, but the difference won’t be much.

Handling

Same for the hot CT5-V Blackwing, the smaller sibling gets unique Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires rated at 255/35R18 on front and 275/35R18 at the rear covering the trim-exclusive pair of 18-inch wheels and elective carbon-ceramic brakes.

Again similar to its big brother, the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing uses GM’s new Magnetic Ride Control. The Version 4.0 enhances the front and rear suspension system by installing hollow stabilizer bars and higher-rate bushings, enabling to drive better in Sport and Track modes, and get comfier on the highway in the regular Tour mode. Moreover, the CT4-V Blackwing has an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

Exterior and Interior

Comparing the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing with the regular model, we do not find many changes, except more assertive carbon fiber components on the front end, a bigger grille with obvious side vents, in addition to a visible carbon fiber spoiler at the rear.

Get inside, and we find carbon fiber elements on the center console, dash, and door panels, along with a 3D-printed shifter placed in the mid of the dash. The overall design is pretty much the same we find in the bigger CT5-V Blackwing.

Comparison

Analyzing the 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing with its German counterparts, the Audi RS3 and the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 are slower and less powerful than the Caddy. The RS3 generates 394 hp (294 kW) and can accelerate to 60 in 3.9 seconds, whereas the CLA 45 churns out 382 hp (284 kW) and sprints to 60 in 4.0 seconds.

Price

The pricing of the Cadillac is also competitive. The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing costs $59,990, making it a little costlier than the RS3 ($56,200) and the CLA 45 ($54,800). Those interested in buying this most powerful small Cadillac to date, can pre-order by depositing $1,000.
