RTA has decided to increase the number of passengers in regular Dubai Taxis. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) tweeted on Saturday that children up to 14 years of age can join the two adults in the backseat. The seat beside the driver on the front will remain empty.
“If you commute in taxis, you can now accompany your child (up to 14 years old) as a third passenger in the vehicle without using the seat next to the driver. The number of authorized passengers in the three-row family vehicle (Van) remains 4, as a maximum, until further notice,” the RTA tweeted.

The latter part of the tweet tells that the three-row family vehicle (Van) can only accommodate four passengers. This decision was made in September when authorities allowed four passenger travel through Hala – a ride-hailing app made by RTA and Careem.
As a van has two rows of seats, each can seat two passengers to maintain social distancing. Similar to regular taxis, the front row passenger seat will remain empty.
The RTA restricted the number of travelers to two in April this year as a precautionary measure to contain coronavirus.
