The American automaker GMC has unveiled its first all-electric pickup truck, the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV on Tuesday boasting extraordinary off-road capability, exceptional on-road performance, and an engaging driving experience.

The salient features of the 2022 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 (the Edition 1 will hit the roads first) include 35-inch off-road tires, air suspension, up to three electric motors generating 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque (wheel torque), and over 563 km of driving range.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV will accessible in four variants. However, the most affordable models will not arrive until the spring of 2024. Edition 1 will hit the roads before the end of 2021.

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 features three motors – two in the back and one in the front. The powertrain includes a 200-kWh 24-module double-stacked Ultium battery pack creating around 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. GMC says it will be able to deliver 563 km (350 miles) of the driving range. The 0 to 96 km/h time is as impressive as you would expect from a supercar. The electric pickup truck achieves this acceleration in just 3.0 seconds.

The Edition 1 will cost at least $112,595 sporting white paint, a Lunar Horizon interior, and “Edition 1” interior symbols. It will feature all the good traits of the pickup EV such as torque vectoring, air suspension, an Extract mode allowing the vehicle to lift itself up to 6 inches high to get 15.9 inches of ground clearance, adaptive dampers, a four-wheel steering system, and a driver-selectable mode (known as Watts to Freedom) that will allow the vehicle to run from zero to 96 km/h in 3.0 seconds.

GMC plans to introduce the electric pickup in four stages. We have already revealed when Edition 1 will be available. The Hummer EV3X should hit the dealerships before the end of 2022 costing around $99,995. The Hummer EV2X featuring a two-motor drive system, air suspension, four-wheel steering, and Extract mode will be available by spring 2023. It will start at $89,995. The most inexpensive, the Hummer EV2 will be accessible by the spring of 2024 costing $79,995. We still do not know the driving range and battery size of the two-motor models.

Regardless of the batteries and electric motor setup, all the models are developed on GM’s new BEV3 architecture. The electrical design is an 800-volt system giving the vehicle quick-charging capability. GMC says it can juice up 100 miles on a 350 kW charger in just 10 minutes. The Level 2 outlet can charge at a rate of 11.5 kW.

GMC’s four-wheel steering system comes with three modes: auto, off, and CrabWalk. CrabWalk is capable of turning the rears with the fronts at low speeds to let the truck move diagonally. It should also let the truck to maneuver effortlessly in tight spaces.

On the inside, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV looks contemporary thanks to the 13.4-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a display for climate controls.

The production of the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will initiate in the last quarter of 2021 at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck factory.
