The German automaker’s most vital performance cars, M3 and M4, break cover featuring aggressive looks, more power, larger size, and more advanced tech. Now in their sixth generation, both 2021 BMW M3 and 2021 BMW M4 sport big dual kidney grilles, making them look different from their predecessors. Besides, both cars have a new twin-turbocharged straight-six pumping out up to 503 horsepower (the Competition variant) that lets them cover 0 to 100 km/h distance in less than four seconds. The new cabin styling comes with brand-new sport buckets seats and a range of new tech.

Exterior

The biggest change in the exterior is the big dual kidney grille that stretches vertically from the bottom of the hood line to the end of the bumper. In addition, both cars have full-LED headlights (BMW Laserlight is optional), and a big vent at the bottom of the bumper. The carbon-fiber roof is standard while the no-cost moonroof is optional. Both the vehicles wear 18-inch tires in front and 19-inch at the rear. The top-of-the-line Competition sports 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the back.

The new color choices (seen in the picture above) are Isle of Man Green metallic (worn by the M3) and Sao Paolo Yellow (sporting the M4). Other options include Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, Oxide Grey, Portimao Blue, Toronto Red, Tanzanite Blue II, Individual Dravit Grey, Individual Frozen Brilliant White, and Individual Frozen Portimao Blue.

Both the 2021 BMW M3 and 2021 BMW M4 are slightly larger than the outgoing models with a 112.5-inch wheelbase.

The new M3 is 4.6 inches lengthier, 0.4-inch broader, and 0.1-inch higher than the outgoing M3. On the other hand, the new M4 is 4.6 inches lengthier, 0.7-inch broader, and 0.4-inch higher compared to the outgoing M4.

Performance

Both the 2021 BMW M3 and 2021 BMW M4 are going to benefit from a twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline-six engine churning out a healthy 473 horsepower (353 kilowatts) and 406 pound-feet (550 newton-meters) giving them enough grunt to go from zero to 96 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The Competition variants are set for higher output of 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque delivering 0-96 km/h speed in 3.8 seconds. This is 59 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque more than the outgoing M3 and M4. The top speed is electronically set to 250 km/h (155 mph) or 290 km/h (180 mph) with the available M Driver’s package.

The base models mate to a six-speed manual transmission, while the range-topping variants come with an eight-speed automatic only, routing power to the rear wheels, at the moment. The xDrive will be accessible for the Competition later on.

On the center console, we get an M Mode option allowing drivers to change settings for the engine, suspension, and steering. The drive mode options for the engine comprise of Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus, while the chassis mode can be set to Comfort, Sport, or Sport Plus. The M-specific power steering can be set to Comfort and Sport.

Both the 2021 BMW M3 and 2021 BMW M4 come equipped with lane departure warning, speed limit information, active blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear-automatic emergency braking. Those who opt for the Competition get full-speed adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, active lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and high-speed automatic emergency braking.
