The limited-edition Lotus Evija electric hypercar was supposed to arrive by the end of this year. However, the Coronavirus pandemic has forced the automaker to delay production because they could not complete the testing procedures, as stated by Autocar.
“We have lost five months of testing, mainly in continental Europe,” Lotus boss Phil Popham expressed Autocar. “We have missed hot weather testing in Spain. It’s not as simple as moving everything to the right as you have to book facilities and there’s a queue, with everyone in the same boat.”
Nevertheless, the engineers were not sitting idle this whole time and have found a way to boost the power output of the Evija, The electric hypercar can now create more than 2,000 horsepower (1,491 kilowatts), instead of the previously publicized 1,973 hp (1,471 kW). The engineers also worked to improve its aerodynamics.
More horsepower and better aerodynamics obviously mean better performance figures. It may hit 100 kilometers per hour in less than 3.0 seconds, 200 kph in about 6.0 seconds, and 300 kph in under 9.0 seconds. The automaker says it could achieve a speed of 322 kph while delivering 402 kilometers of drive range.
The automaker plans to develop only 130 examples of the Lotus Evija with pricing details still under wraps. However, it will reportedly fall between US$1.77 million and US$2.36 million.
