After its popular decision to create a luxury sub-brand Genesis in 2015, Hyundai now has decided to launch its future EV operations under the Ioniq umbrella. Besides launching this customer-centric EV sub-brand, the marque has announced three new electric vehicles.

To mark this special occasion, Hyundai organized a light show at the London Eye and revealed that the Ioniq 5 will be the first of the three vehicles they will produce in the coming years. Inspired by the Hyundai 45 Concept, it will be a mid-size crossover planned for the next year.

Next in line is the Ioniq 6 sedan, based on the Prophecy concept, which will launch in 2022.

Last but not least, the Ioniq 7 SUV, the biggest of all these offerings, is slated to hit the showrooms anytime in 2024.

All these vehicles are underpinned on the Hyundai’s new Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The E-GMP is made to offer smart living space inside along with a massive drive range and fast-charging capabilities.

Some of the salient features include adaptable seats, wireless connectivity, and distinct facilities such as a glove box styled as drawers.

The Ioniq EV sub-brand is part of the company’s 2025 strategy to speed up the production of electric vehicles and sell 560,000 battery-electric vehicles in addition to FCEVs. If it achieves these sales figures, Hyundai will become the world’s 3rd biggest carmaker of electrified vehicles in the next five years.
