The German luxury automaker is going to introduce rear-seat airbags in 2021 Mercedes S-Class to protect the rear passengers in front crashes. The automaker will give more details on it in its second “Meet the S-Class DIGITAL” episode on July 29.
This safety tech will put the new S-Class at the forefront, making it the first vehicle to offer such airbags. “It calls for an entirely different concept to that of front airbags,” Mercedes said in its press release. However, that’s not all.
The 2021 Mercedes S-Class will boast the new Pre-Safe Impulse Side function as well. It triggers the E-Active Body Control suspension to elevate the entire car when it perceives an impending collision. This function will work in tandem with the technology the automaker employs to move the occupants on the front toward the center of the car.
After the second episode on July 29, the third and last episode will air on August 12 aiming at interior tech for the S-Class.
The spy shots gathered by Motor1 do not show many changes on the outside but do not think it will be the same as the ongoing model. There are lots of new features Mercedes is adding in the 2021 S-Class. Stay tuned for updates!
