Abu Dhabi Police have initiated the Safe Summer Traffic Campaign to aware of motorists the dangers associated with the unfit tires. Talking about the risks, the Police told media that worn-out tires caused three deaths and two injuries last summer. In addition, they found 6,211 vehicles that were using expired tires.
As motorists start moving the stationary vehicles after the government has eased the lockdown, it is of utmost importance to check the condition of the tires to stay safe on the road. The rising temperatures in the UAE can be lethal for damaged or cracked tires. Any motorists who will be driving with unfit tires have to pay Dh500 fine with four traffic points. The Police will also confiscate the vehicle for seven days.
Colonel Mohammad Salem Al Shehhi, Director of External Areas Traffic Department in the Traffic and Patrols Directorate in the Central Operations Sector, has advised drivers to examine a few things about tires. He suggested inspecting the load a tire can support, the year of its manufacturing, and its current air pressure. All these things are very vital; overloading, expired tires, and over/under-inflated tires can wreak havoc on the roads, especially during summers.
The Police will publicize the Safe Summer Traffic Campaign on its social media channels and shoot messages and emails to government organizations to spread the word, as well.
