The 2021 Hyundai i20 has made its online debut with an improved design, more tech, and a multitude of safety features. The third-generation model will make its public appearance at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show.
Looking at the car from the front, we see a wide grille and edgy lines on the front. At the rear, we find a full-width LED lamp stretching to the updated taillights. The overall design is cleaner than the outgoing model.
The 2021 Hyundai i20 has a little lower roof; however, it is now around one inch wider. It means the wheelbase has been stretched (just half an inch). While it may not add a significant space for passengers and luggage, it is a welcoming update for this small hatchback.
The real magic happens in the tech department. The new i20 has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that connects to another 10.25-inch center display to give a contemporary feel inside. Wireless cell phone charging, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bose sound system are all part of the deal along with Bluelink Connected Car Services.
The automaker offers Hyundai’s SmartSense safety package to make the rides safer. The salient features comprise of navigation-based intelligent cruise control, lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert, and an advanced forward-collision warning system.
The hatch transfers power to the wheels through a 1.2L four-cylinder churning out 83 horsepower assisted by a five-speed manual transmission. Those looking for an extra oomph can opt for a 1.0-liter GDi turbo three-cylinder creating 99 hp or 118 hp with an optional 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrain. The turbo can mate either to a seven-speed dual-clutch or to a new six-speed “intelligent” manual.
The company didn’t reveal the pricing details for the 2021 Hyundai i20, so we have to wait for the Geneva Show to fill the blanks.
