Volkswagen has finally decided to use the Taigun name for a small crossover, which looks similar to the Indian version of the T-Cross. Its official unveiling took place at Auto Expo 2020. The VW Taigun was first introduced as a concept in October 2012 but unfortunately, it couldn’t reach the production lines.

The VW Taigun is 165 inches long and has a 104-inch wheelbase. It is actually underpinned on a stretched T-Cross, available for Indian and Chinese markets. It rides on MQB A0 platform and has many elements we witnessed in Skoda Vision IN concept. It also provides a very healthy ground clearance of 205-mm to conquer rough road conditions.

Talking about the power, it carries a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine generating 130 hp. The automaker says it can hit 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds and max out at 183 km/h. Customers can also opt for a less powerful three-cylinder 1.0 TSI engine creating 115 hp. The engines will be mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic. The front-wheel-drive is standard.

The VW Taigun will first be available for the Indian markets. The sales might start by the end of this year.
