Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its most extravagant offering, the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4Matic at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show on Thursday. The automaker says it combines the “body design and technical basis of the GLS with the luxury of a top-class sedan.” The one thing we see in abundance on the exterior is chrome detailing. The real magic is inside, but let’s first discuss the exterior.

Maybach altered the exterior to distinguish it from the standard GLS. On the front, we see a new grille with vertical chrome pinstripes, chromed lower grille, and chromed side air intakes. In fact, chrome is everywhere; on the B-pillars, roof rails, strip at the back, the top and bottom of the bumper, and so on. The automaker gives a choice of eight two-tone color combinations. We can see electronic running boards on both sides; they are 2.06 meters (6.8 feet) long and 21 centimeters wide in the rear door area. These boards can withstand 200 kilograms of weight.

On the inside, you won’t get the third row because that is taken out to offer more legroom to the rear passengers. The rear seats extend to offer a more relaxing journey. The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 is an ultimate symbol of luxuriousness. Folding tables, champagne flutes, dedicated fragrance, a rear-seat entertainment system, ventilated and heated massaging seats, opaque roller blind, and the electronic panoramic sunroof, make this new full-size SUV stand apart in its class. Customers can opt for a five-seat configuration but that would not allow them to have a refrigerator with space for champagne bottles.

Coming to the powertrain, it carries a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine generating 550 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque. That’s not all! It also has the EQ Boost that creates an extra 21 hp and 184 lb-ft for a little time. The new GLS 600 4Matic will be able to hit 96 km/h in around 4.8 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 209 km/h. The top speed for European models will extend to 250 km/h.

Expect the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 in the 3rd quarter of 2020. The automaker will disclose prices near its launch.
