The Blue Oval revealed their first electric crossover SUV, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E last Sunday, and boy we are impressed. The top variants come with 483 km of range, 0 to 96 km run in mid-3-second range, and all-wheel drive.
Starting with the standard model, known as ‘Select’, its powertrain can generate 255 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque with an expected EPA range of 338 to 370 km, run from 0 to 96 km/h in the mid-5-second field, and option to choose between rear and all-wheel drive. Buyers can reserve it now for $500 on Ford’s website. It will cost $43,895, excluding the $7,500 federal tax credit and destination charges. Deliveries for the base model start at the start of 2021.
Those who want better options can opt for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium. It will be available in two tunes of power from 255 to 333 hp and 306 to 417 lb-ft of torque. The estimated drive range varies from 338 to 483 km. The run from 0 to 96 km will take mid 5- to 6-seconds. Again, buyers can select between rear and all-wheel drive when they are ready to dish out $50,600 (exclusive of tax credit or destination charges).
The fastest of all is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, which is capable of creating 459 hp and 612 lb-ft. The $60,500 GT will hit 96 km/h in the mid-3-second range with an all-wheel drive and 20-inch wheels. Opting quick acceleration will put a dent on the driving range, which will stand at 378 km.
Those who really want to stand out with their purchase should go for 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E First Edition sporting a price tag of $59,900. This would produce 333 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque with an expected drive range of 435 km, run to 96 in mid-5-second, all-wheel drive, and 19-inch wheels.
Regarding charging times, Ford says it can add 76 km of range in only 10 minutes when charged at a 150-kW charger. The battery choices may include 78.7-kWh and 98.8-kWh lithium-ion.
Although the exterior is much inspired by traditional Mustang, the interior is unique to the nameplate with a big Tesla-like touchscreen and a slim digital gauge cluster.
The crossover SUV will hit the roads sometime next year.
